SRCC GBO 2010 Analysis

The total numbers of questions were 160 while the time given was 120 minutes. The number of questions remained same as last year, being 40 in each of the 4 sections. There were 4 series of papers namely A, B, C, D. The marking system was 4 for a correct answer and -1 for an incorrect answer. The general framework of the paper was on same lines as last year. There were a few printing errors and wrong options .The drill-down of the paper is given in the table below.

A careful glance of all the sections and you will find the English section to be the easiest in comparison to all of them. Most of the words in the synonym-antonym section were easy and a regular reader would find these words to be frequent. A good way to maximize your score would have been to concentrate on these questions, where one could have maximized the scores with a decent level of proficiency. The options in cloze test were a little close. The RC passage dealing with forest cover was quite short and majority of questions were direct. Grammar questions asking the INCORRECT option were a little tricky. The fill in the blanks questions consisted of 2 blocks of 5 questions each. They dealt with parts of speech and phrasal verbs and were very easy. Within the time available, the minimum correct attempts in this section could have been 26.

QUANTITATIVE ABILITY

The questions in quantitative ability were quite easy with one or two speed breakers in between. They were a little time consuming. Compared to last year, the difficulty level was a little higher. Hence the choice of questions would have to be careful. The questions on Arithmetic and Algebra were of easy to moderate difficulty level. Most of the questions in the Arithmetic section were from “Time Speed and Distance”. In Algebra, the questions were mainly from “Equations” and also “substituting variables” type and were of moderate difficulty level. The questions on Mensuration were easy to moderate. The questions required basic knowledge of formulae. 1 or 2 questions required application of concepts of geometry. The table based data Interpretation questions were very easy and should be attempted to maximize the scores. There were a few mistakes in options as well as there were some printing errors. Within the time available, the minimum correct attempts in this section could have been 23.

The Logical Ability section was moderate in difficulty level. The easy blocks were the series based questions, analogies and the conditional reasoning questions. There was one caselet based on arrangement of teachers according to subjects, which was very easy. The critical reasoning questions were not so difficult, but not a safe bet to attempt either. Within the time available, the minimum correct attempts in this section would have to be around 24-25.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE

The questions on static GK were mainly from the mineral sector, history, geography, culture and sobriquets. They were a little on the trickier side. The options in one of the questions which asks about the Director of the movie” Guide” was wrong. The current GK questions were mainly from personalities and places and also from sports. There were 2-3 questions which were repeated from last year’s paper. Most of the questions were moderate. Within the time available, the minimum correct attempts in this section could have been 23.
