MIB/MHROD 2010 ANALYSIS

The total number of questions was 200 while the time given was 120 minutes. The marking system was 4 for a correct answer and -1 for an incorrect answer. There was no sectional breakup, which just gives an indication that this exam might consider the overall cut-offs and not sectional cut- offs. There were a few printing errors. The drill-down of the paper according to chronological order of sections is given in the table below.

VERBAL ABILITY/READING COMPREHENTION

As is the trend with the previous DU related entrance exams, the English section has been a cake walk and this was no different. The Parajumbles section was of Moderate Difficulty level, but the only challenge in this section was finding either the first or the last sentence, as the options were not confusing. The RC passage dealing with racial difference was quite easy and majority of questions were direct. The Vocabulary section asking the INCORRECT usage of the word and the other part of this section asking about the synonyms was also easy. Within the time available, the minimum correct attempt in this section is expected to be 31.

QUANTITATIVE ABILITY

The questions in quantitative ability were quite easy with one or two speed breakers in between. The arithmetic section had the maximum weightage with as many as 29 questions asked. Around 90% of the questions in Arithmetic were very easy. In Algebra the questions were mainly from Progressions, and were very easy. There was an odd question on Remainder theorem. The Maxima and Minima question required basic knowledge of Quadratic expression. Surprisingly, there were 9 questions on Modern Maths consisting of a set of 4 questions on Set theory, 2 questions on Probability and 3 on Permutation and Combination. They were of moderate difficulty level. The questions on Mensuration required basic knowledge of 3D figure and their formulae and were easy. There were some printing errors. Within the time available, the minimum correct attempt in this section is expected to be 28.

The Logical ability section was moderate in difficulty level. There were 38 critical reasoning questions mainly focussing on drawing out reasonable inferences from small paragraphs. Most of them were of moderate difficulty level. Around 50% of the questions in critical reasoning were doable. The questions on Data sufficiency required basic knowledge of elementary Maths and should have been attempted first. Within the time available, the minimum correct attempt in this section is expected to be around 23.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE

The questions on static GK were mainly from the, history, geography, culture and sobriquets. They were very easy. Nearly 80 % of the current GK questions were mainly from personalities and places and the rest were from miscellaneous topics and sobriquets. Within the time available, the minimum correct attempts in this section would have to be 25.
