MHCET Analysis

The Maharashtra CET exam conducted on 21st February 2010 had 200 questions  to be attempted in 150 minutes. There were 5 options for each question. There was no mention of negative marks. There was no sectional demarcation and the sections were mixed up. A brief snapshot of  the number of  questions under each section is as given below:

QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE

Arithmetic was the most favoured area. Nearly 25-30% of  the questions were from Arithmetic. The topics  included  Profit &  Loss,  SI/CI,  Speed  Time and  Distance.  There  were also  some questions from Geometry.  The questions  ranged  from easy  to moderate  difficulty  level.  There  were 8-10 questions  from Mathematical  Comparison.  Within the  time  available,  the possible  correct attempts in this section are expected to be 29+.  The time allocation should have been around 25 minutes.

 

VERBAL ABILITY AND RC

The questions  were equally  distributed  among Reading  Comprehension  and Verbal  Ability.  There were 3 passages  in all of  which there  was one  large  passage of  having  7 questions  and 2 small passages having  2 questions  each.  The difficulty level  was moderate.  The Verbal  Ability  section comprised   of    questions   from  Grammar,  Sentence   Correction,   Parajumbles,   Cloze   Test   and Synonyms-Antonyms.  The number  of  questions  in each  of  these areas ranged between 4 and 8. The difficulty level was moderate. Within the  time available, the possible correct attempts in this section are expected to be 31+.  The time allocation should have been around 30 minutes.

 

VISUAL REASONING

The questions were divided into 3 blocks of 7-10 questions each. The topics included  Series Completion, Odd-One Out and Missing Term in a Sequence. This area  was a little difficult  to attempt. Within the time available, the possible correct attempts in this section are expected to be 16+. The time allocation should have been around 25 minutes.

 

REASONING and DI

The questions were distributed among Logical Reasoning, Critical Reasoning      and      Data Interpretation.  The section  was easy but a little  lengthier There were 3 DI sets comprising  of  Table, Bar Graph and Line  Graph. There  was a single  set number of  questions  varied  between 15-17.The questions in Logical Reasoning were  easy  while those  from Critical Reasoning were a little on the difficult side.  There  was a set of  10 questions based on certain  conditions  given.  In the Logical reasoning  section  the questions  were asked  from Coding-Decoding,  Circular Arrangement-Based Reasoning, Venn  diagram,  Cause and Effect, Sequence and Series  and Symbolic Logic.  The number of  questions in the areas given above varied between 3 and 6 in each of  the areas .Within the time available, the possible correct attempts in this section are expected  to be 74+.  The time allocation should have been around 70 minutes.

 

SECTIONAL SCORES AND OVERALL CUT-OFFS

The overall  level  of  the paper was on the medium  side  and scores and cut-offs are expected to go lower this time as compared to last year. Below is presented the summary of the above analysis.
