The MAT exam conducted on 7th February 2010 had 200 questions to be attempted in 150 minutes. These 200 questions were from five test areas with exactly 40 questions in each. Negative marks for each question were to the extent of 1/4 of the maximum marks for each question. A brief snapshot of the various sections is presented below:

Similar to December MAT, Arithmetic was the most favoured area this time too. Nearly 50% of the questions were from Arithmetic. Geometry was also a major portion of the Quant section this year. The questions were mostly on the easier side. The rest of topics included Modern Maths and Trigonometry. Within the time available, the possible correct attempts in this section are expected to be 23+. The time allocation has to be around 35 minutes.
The questions comprised mostly of standard Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency questions. Nearly 60% of the questions were from Data Interpretation. There was a section on Data Comparison, questions of which were of average difficulty level. Within the time available, the possible correct attempts in this section are expected to be 24+. The time allocation has to be around 30 minutes.
The questions were equally distributed among Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability. There were 5 passages in all. The difficulty level was moderate. The Verbal Ability section comprised questions of Grammar, Parts of Speech and Vocabulary. The difficulty level was moderate. Within the time available, the possible correct attempts in this section are expected to be 25+. The time allocation has to be around 35 minutes.
The questions were distributed among Logical and Critical Reasoning. The questions in Logical Reasoning were easy while those from Critical Reasoning were a little on the difficult side. The questions were asked from Blood Relations, Coding-Decoding, Arrangement-based Reasoning, Sequence and Series among other areas. Within the time available, the possible correct attempts in this section are expected to be 24+. The time allocation has to be around 40 minutes.
The questions in this test area were, predominantly, from Current and Business GK. Within the time available, the possible correct attempts in this section are expected to be 14+. The time allocation has to be around 10 minutes.
The overall level of the paper was difficult this time and scores and cut-offs are expected to go lower this time. Below is presented the summary of the above analysis.
