A brief idea about the flagship program is given below.
The two-year PGP, leading up to a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is the flagship programme of IIM Bangalore. It is designed to equip students with the skills and capabilities that will enable them to reach responsible global positions in management. The PGP revolves around the principle that world-class business leaders are not mass-produced; they are nurtured and developed with personalized care and attention, in small work groups and teams, and in a practical, application-oriented, user-friendly environment.
IIM Bangalore has declared the Admission Criteria for admissions to the PGP 2011-13. The B-School follows a two phase process for short listing the CAT 2010 takers for Essay Writing and Personal Interview and selection. The first phase process is applied to all eligible candidates who appear for CAT 2010 to determine those qualifying candidates who will be called for personal interview (PI).The description of different phases is given below.
The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the overall and sectional CAT scores. For a General category candidate, the sectional and overall cut offs are 80 for Quantitative Ability, 80 for Data Interpretation and 80 for Verbal Ability and 90 in total. However, IIM Bangalore mentions, “These cut-offs are not for those called for interview whose scores would be much higher.”
The candidates who are shortlisted on the basis of their percentiles, their percentage scores for the 10th, 12th graduation and professional course (if any) scores were also calculated.
The maximum score for Work Experience in the pre PI stage is 5. The Phase 2 has the maximum score of 10. Candidates who have pursued professional course or work experience are considered under a common weight of 10 since both provide a professional work experience relevant for MBA.
Other than work experience or professional course, the weights for the
remaining four components (each of them being standardized) are fixed as:
CAT = 20, 10th board=15, 12th board=10, Bachelors = 15.
The Phase 2 of the selection process consists of Essay Writing of 30 minutes duration and Personal Interview. In the Essay Writing, Note Content and Note Style are considered. “The performance of each candidate on the note will be scored by each interviewer individually in terms of content and style. Each interviewer will use the Personal Interview to comprehensively evaluate the candidate’s motivation and ability to fit in and benefit from the PGP program. All candidates will be required to provide three confidential reference letters from their employers or faculty and this will also be used in the personal interview evaluation,” informs IIM Bangalore.
During the interview, the quality of the work experience will be evaluated by the panelists. The average quality of work experience score will be multiplied by the pre-PI work experience score and accordingly the work/professional experience component score (maximum score 5) used in Phase 1 will be revised in Phase 2 (maximum score 10).
Overseas candidates are admitted through direct applications. Overseas candidates are Indian nationals or foreigners with valid passport or travel document residing outside India and not in a position to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management at various centers in India. These candidates are required to take the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) and have an official result reported to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). The GMAT code number for IIMB is 7036. Final selection is based on performance in GMAT, scholastic achievement, work experience, and three letters of reference.
Domestic candidates have to register for the CBT based CAT from the website www.catiim.in. For Registration for other programs, please visit the website http://www.iimb.ernet.in.
