FMS 2010 Analysis & Answer Key

The FMS exam conducted on 5th Dec was of easy to moderate level. The test had total time limit of 120 minutes. The positive marks per question were 4 marks and negative marks –1. Sectional cutoff was 50 percentile in each section as given in FMS brochure. Each question had 4 options. There were 4 options for each question. The breakup of questions according to sectional area is given below.

READING COMPREHENSION

There were 4 passages in Reading Comprehension passage. The passages had 14, 15, 11 and 10 questions respectively. The section was on the easy-medium side with around 80% direct questions. The possible cut-off score could be 74-76. The time allocation could be 25 minutes.

DATA INTERPRETATION / ANALYTICAL REASONING

There were 4 Logical Caselets having a total of 15-16 questions. The rest of the questions were single liners. At least 2 sets should have been attempted. The set on Tables was calculative but easy. The questions on Jumbled Words had 2 sets of 3 and 4 questions each, of which one set should definitely be attempted. The rest of the questions were from Coding, Symbolic Logic and Blood Relations. The possible cutoff score could be 83-84. The time allocation could be 35 minutes.

VERBAL ABILITY

The Sentence Correction questions were in 2 blocks of 12 and 10 questions respectively. The Fill in the Blanks questions had a mix of 1 as well as 2 blanks. The knowledge of Vocabulary was essential in cracking these questions. The section was very easy. The possible cutoff score could be 109-112. The time allocation could be 30 minutes.

QUANTITATIVE ABILITY

The questions on Arithmetic were from Time and speed, Work, Ratio, Percentage and Profit and Loss. The majority of questions were from Time and Speed and Ratio. At least 4-5 questions were doable .The questions on Algebra were majorly from Linear and Quadratic Equations. The other centerics from which the questions were asked were from P&C, AP/GP and Inequality. There were 2 questions in the Higher Math section.1 question was from higher degree equation while the other question was from Co-ordinate Geometry. Overall 8-9 questions were definitely doable in the Algebra and Higher Math Section. The questions on Geometry were of medium difficulty level and of the 6 questions asked, 3 were definitely doable. The possible cut-off score could be 78-80. The time allocation could be 30 minutes.

SECTIONAL SCORES AND OVERALL CUT-OFFS

The overall level of the paper was on the easy-medium side and scores and cut-offs are expected to go a little higher this time as compared to last year. Below is presented the summary of the above analysis.
